WLJ - Day 2

Day #2: New Zealand by Land and Sea
After a short ride through Auckland it is time to start exploring the rest of the country. Today you are going to venture around the north island of New Zealand to look at active volcanoes, gorgeous beaches, windswept coastline and lush, green bush. As a group, you will start at Rangitoto, the largest volcano in New Zealand before driving west to Karekare, a stunning beach on the outskirts of Auckland. You will finish the day by driving north to visit Tane Mahuta, the oldest living kauri tree in New Zealand.

Activity 1: After a very busy day of sightseeing you and your group drive from Tane Mahuta to your hotel in Dargaville. When you arrive you decide to sit down and record your thoughts in your travel diary.

Before you start writing, take a minute to read more about Rangitoto island, Karekare beach and Tane Mahuta.  On your blog, tell us which of the three places you most enjoyed visiting and why.
  • I enjoyed visiting…..

Tonga - The reason being is that in the summer, Tonga is very hot. I enjoy being in Tonga in summer because we drink/eat fresh coconut from the coconut tree. Also it is good to go out with your family to the beach since it is very hot!
Australia - I really enjoyed visiting Australia because the time was winter but it felt like spring! The sun was out on most days but some days the clouds were out. I really enjoyed it because I got to see my mum’s family in a different country for the first time!

Hamilton - I enjoy going to Hamilton because it’s a really long ride but it’s worth it afterwards! I also enjoy seeing different things in Hamilton ( sloped hills, so many hills you can see, amazing weather, the rivers and lakes are clean! ) They also have some animals roaming around the area. The ocean is clean and it’s perfect for a holiday!

  2. Hi Sarah,

Thank you for sharing your experiences visiting Tonga, Australia and Hamilton. I see you are considerate about visiting places during various seasons of the year. That's so cool! I was born in Australia and loved living there for a short time because of the nice warm weather. Unlike New Zealand, the temperatures in Australia do not get as cold like us and I agree, Winter there always feel like Spring.

Sarah, to earn full points for this activity please provide a summary about your most exciting place you visited given from the link above. You will be able to learn information about Rangitoto Island, Karekare beach and Tane Mahuta. Once you have visited these places, write a review about one place you would love to visit. I can't wait to read your interesting facts!

    Enjoy the Journey and Goodluck!

    Jacinta
